Mixed Media Mondays Begin
In October 2024, Mixed Media Mondays, a new class for artists and non-artists, started. The first session was a game-changer as new drawings of faces began to emerge.
"I can't make faces!" she shared passionately.
"Yes, you can," I replied with a smile.
Carol looked at me from across the table. The look on her face suggested she wasn't sure if I was serious or mocking. To be sure, I was serious.
"Friend, if I can do it, you can, too! Join us Monday, and I'll show you how."
Two days later, Carol arrived for our first Mixed-Media Mondays session, looking hesitant but open to trying. Over the next two hours, our new group of five settled in for art talk and art making. After a brief overview of tools, techniques, and materials used in mixed media art, we began what Carol came for.
Within an hour, with a big smile and lots of eraser shavings, Carol declared, "I can draw faces!" Smiles appeared as we all looked at what the ladies had accomplished after a short lesson in the basics of drawing a human face.
And just like that, our first Mixed-Media Mondays class was in the books— with four happy participants gathering up their new faces in various stages of 'done.'
